About the Deploy* API
Brief History
Oscar Godson started Project Deploy* in the summer of '08. In November it was released and was first picked up by Go2Web20.net and took off from there. At it's busiest point, Deploy* was generating 2 to 3 projects a second and ranked on Alexa in the top 35,000 sites within a week of being released. Since then there have been a few updates and one major update on the way that is now put on hold. This update was 1.4.
The update was put on hold for the Deploy* API. When the API is finished projectdeploy.org will use the API it's self since having Deploy* generate new files for each project takes space up quite a bit of server space and processing power and about 1%-2% of time causes fatal errors.
Oscar designed it this way because he didn't think it would ever take off. It was for internal use only at the beginning. Oscar decided to scrap 1.4 and try to come up with a better alternative which will be this API that will be open sourced to the general public soon.
The Future
Currently the project is being funded, and maintained only by Oscar Godson with some help along the way from many of his Twitter followers. This however slows the project down some and any help would be very much appreciated. This project is open source, but until it's released you must ask for the code.
The Goal
The goal of the Deploy* API is to allow web developers to generate web project frameworks from anywhere and in any form. Whether it be a mobile device, AIR or desktop app. Whether it be written in Cocoa or .NET. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for the end users (web developers) to save time making web projects and getting prototypes up and running within minutes.
